First day of SDC!

The past week’s been so busy; we had our inservice training for day camp.

5/29
Tuesday started off with a retreat; we stayed at church for the night. During the day, we went over a bunch of stuff, like meetings, group dynamics, challenges, etc. The group dynamic was for creativity that day, and we had to design a product that’s never been designed before. Gummie bears had a movable sidewalk. Skittles had the handy hands; it could make anything that you could form your hands into: glasses, a knife, lighter, gun, and other random crap lulz. Airheads had a device that made food out of compost, and the Starburst had the Pill-know that let you soak up information while you slept on your pillow haha. As for the group challenge that night, we had to design a canvas that portrayed our group words: Capable Gummie Bears, Sacraficial Skittles, Innovative Airheads, and Diligent Starbursts. Skittles made a canvas with a lion head surrounded by old clothing; the clothing scraps was supposed to symbolize us giving up our possessions haha. We started at ten and stayed up till midnight working on it. After that, we were finally free to do whatever we wanted. Played Monopoly Deal until like two haha.

We were supposed to wake up at like nine, but I have no idea why people were walking around at like freaking six. Crazy. Anyways, the group challenge for that day was to take a yoga class. The thing is, the yoga class took place in a 105 degree room… it was like a sauna. Everyone was bathing in their own sweat. Some people even fainted, and we weren’t allowed to leave the room because we signed a contract before entering the classroom saying we wouldn’t. It was horrible; the class was an hour and a half long too. Anyways, after that, we were done with church for the day, so Jason took some of us guys to just chill at Wingstop. We ordered the seventy-five wing meal lol; couldn’t even finish it. It was nice to just chill with the guys though. After that, we went home.

The challenge for Thursday was to do something at a really, really nice beach in San Rafael. The bus driver that drove us to the beach had “Friday” for his name lol; it was his legit name. We all thought he was joking when he told us. Anyways, Vinette’s riddles lol; Jason was annoyed as hell because he couldn’t solve them. When we got the beach, it was so nice. The sun was shining, and the beach was just a really nice place overall. The challenge was to record a movie using the given props and plot: a painting by Da Vinci was stolen and we have to retrieve it. Irene had to be the main character, and Candice had to be the stealer haha. We spent like four hours at the beach recording, but we spent like two hours planning what we wanted to do. It was all good though; we finished right before we had to go; it’s all about the clutch. After that, we started decorating our Skittles room. We used a nature theme, so we had trees with Skittles as fruits,Skittles banner, origami cranes and birds, a waterfall flowing with Skittles, and a bunch of other things haha. We got our camp hoodies too! Left at around nine with Ada.

Last day of inservice- we had to get there by like 7:30 instead of 9:00 because Allan was punishing counselors for being late by making the whole staff go early… ugh. Spent two hours decorating until ten. While we were decorating, we made plans to go out to eat dinner at Tak Kae across the street that night. After decorating, we got our staff tshirts in the sanctuary. It was so cute haha; Allan was calling up all the main counselors and giving each of them their own little personal speech while he gave them their shirts. Then, the main counselors did the same for the other counselors. After that, we all took a bunch of group pictures.  After that, we had a fashion show challenge that day lulz. We had to make a clothing line based on a season and using only old clothing and recycled items that we were told to bring ourselves. We got spring, and Irene and Ryan were our models. Priscilla made a really nice pencil skirt for Irene out of a baby Milo shirt that I brought. Vinette made a tube top out of magazine papers and paper bags haha, and Candice made flip flops out of cardboard with fabric scraps from our canvas challenge. As for Ryan, Irene made him a scarf out of a shirt. Jason and Aaron made him a vest out of an old sweater and even sewed on a hood with fishnet wire HAHA. I helped Mandy make shorts out of paper bags for Ryan. When we presented it though, it was too funny. Gummie Bears had summer, and Andrew, Ryan, and Jenny basically stripped on the catwalk lol. Airheads had winter, so they were basically had Ken in literally twenty layers of dress shirts and eight pairs of pants lulul. Too funny. For the Starburst, Brendan and Kelly wore suits made out of of trashbags. They were supposed to show off dance moves too, but of course, Kelly just stood there like an awkward stick while Brendan did all the dancing. Skittles won the challenge though. What’s goood, haha. After that, we went to the sanctuary and watched all of the videos that the groups made at the beach. The Gummie Bears was so last minute that you could tell lol. The Skittles video- I editted it, so no comment lol. Airheads was too funny though; they did a bunch of movie references. The Starburst had a legit movie though; it looked all professional and stuff. Airheads won the video challenge, but for the overall inservice training week, with all the challenges, guess who won. That’s right; Skittles. SK all day! Here’s the crazy thing though; the prize was the church treating the group to dinner at Tak Kae. CRAZY. We were already planning to go too! Anyways, we continued decorations until we went out to eat. It was nice; the Skittles are like my second family. Aaron knows how to grub lol; ordering all these fancy and nice dishes. Kary be nasty; asking when was the last time we went to poo right before our meals. After that, we went back to church to finish up decorations. We painted a picture of Pride Rock from the Lion King to put up in our room! After that, I got a ride with Mandy and Emily. 

Overall, it was a really, really good but tiring week. I’m pumped for camp to start on Monday, even though I know it’s going to be just as tiring. Praying for the staff to have the strength to push through though. The next seven weeks are going to memorable. ay camp.
